So they changed the races from specific numbers of laps to being timed events? Seems like a trend in all motorcycle racing lately to make changes for absolutely no reason.

Yes that is one change that really makes no sense. It was still an exciting bit of racing and looks promising to be a tough year for a lot of riders.

What happened to Canard? Why did he pull off the starting gate before the start of the main? I admit to just skimming through the race video after getting home from the banquet last night.

they said he had a sore shoulder from an earlier practice crash. if that was the real reason i dont know?

Highly possible. He's a crash test dummy for sure. Too bad, I really love to watch him ride when he's healthy and he's on his game. I always thought he would be a championship contender but too crash prone.

i found it kinda funny that Roczen is on team Honda this year, and Canard is on Ktm. like they swapped from last season

So they changed the races from specific numbers of laps to being timed events? Seems like a trend in all motorcycle racing lately to make changes for absolutely no reason.

They did it for a couple reasons. They have more control over the time for TV coverage. Also ever since they started using the 4-stroke bikes the lap times have gotten faster year after year. To the point that in the smaller venues they were running lap times in the mid 40s. Meaning that the main event was over in around 15 minutes. People were complaining that ticket prices were going up and the length of the event was getting shorter.

James and Malcom will be back this season. I think they're working on a deal with Red Bull. Not sure what bikes they'd be on, but I doubt he'll get much (if any) factory support. He's burned a lot of bridges, and blew up a few that weren't even built.

As for winners. I'd like to just see a good competitive season, and not one that's decided just past the half way point. I do like Dungey for his riding style. I'd also love to see Reed sneak in a win this season.

Reed's been my favorite since he moved up to the 250 class. I was a big McGrath fan back in the day and I wanted to see Reed beat Carmichael as often as possible. :)
